Last Year I took part with fellow artist Lynda Bell Mann in South East Open Studios for the first time. We had no idea what to expect or if anyone would visit. I’m glad to say we had a steady flow of visitors and many stayed to make their own blotted line card.
First they drew either sweets, shells or something from the garden. The next step was to trace their drawing and then lay this tracing over a blank greetings card.
Once happy with the position of their tracing they stuck it down with masking tape so they could flip the tracing paper back and forth.
Using dip pens & ink was quite a challenge as they got used to drawing on the underside of the tracing and then printing it on to the card. There were a few inky splodges but it all adds to the effect. Once the ink was dry they added colour with watercolour paint. It was great to see so many visitors enjoying making their own cards and discovering their creative side.
This year Lynda and I will be opening the studio doors once again on 9th June. This year’s art activity will be based around experimenting with patterns and mono printing. Hope you can join us.
